Job Description
SUMMARY
The Production Supervisor is responsible for day-to-day operation of the production plant. The Production Supervisor supervises, motivates, and supports the staff daily, applying a team approach and maintaining open communication. The Production Supervisor plans and strategizes all production activities including productivity, machine maintenance and maintaining profitability. The Production Supervisor performs essential functions to ensure overall customer satisfaction and quality service and establishes and maintains effective communication with employees and clients. The Production Supervisor is responsible for the effective and efficient planning and scheduling of personnel and equipment to reduce bottlenecks and down time, while continuously improving the efficiency of the department. As the Production Supervisor and the leader of the Production Team, you are accountable for meeting the department production and quality goals, as well as playing a key role in meeting the company wide profitability and customer satisfaction goals:

Description of Duties and Responsibilities:
Health and Safety
- Comply with all Ideal Products and Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) requirements.
- Continuously drive improvement in the system by being actively involved in all incident investigations and reviews
- Report daily incidents to Plant Manager
- Implement, lead, and monitor all corrective actions that derive from previous safety incidents
- Ensure daily toolbox meetings are held for assigned shift. Communicate health and safety information to all employees
- Ensure appropriate health and safety training is supplied to all employees to meet OH&S standards
- Ensure machinery and department is safe for all employees, contractors, and visitors
General and Administrative
- Implement, maintain, and control all changes introduced by management regarding structure, personnel, production processes, product changes, and company policies
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor that reflects the company’s commitment to quality, continuous improvement, and respect for individuals
- Provide a positive atmosphere and always motivate employees
- Effectively work with all divisions of the business and personnel, including management, maintenance, planning, warehouse operations, purchasing, sales, and external branches
- Foster interdepartmental relationships in the Pasadena facility to ensure operational goals and customer expectations are met. Lead by example for your team and build strong relationships with all stakeholders in the business
- Communicate effectively with management, the sales team, and the production team, by informing and updating them regularly to guarantee that production, sales, and customer objectives are met.
- Ensure that production associates have all the necessary information, tools, and equipment to meet operational goals
- Conduct annual reviews with all associates to ensure company goals are achieved
- Ensure all training records for employees are kept up to date and current
- Ensure training program is maintained for all production employees.
- Follow up on all corrective actions that derive from non-conformance reporting in production.
- Utilize quality control personnel in order to maintain quality standards are met and problems are dealt with in a timely manner.
- Ensure all production records are filled out correctly and follow the controlled process
Production Operations
- Organize workflow according to workload to meet delivery schedule and to complete assigned jobs.
- As required, provide information to sales representatives and management regarding delivery dates, schedules and operating problems
- Schedule, plan and conduct morning production meetings
- Schedule employee work hours to fit current demands of the business
- Be aware of the daily production schedule and major projects that are in process or scheduled to enter production
- Monitor the daily order file to ensure deliveries are being met and customer needs are being satisfied
- Manage the coordination and control of all jobs/work orders.
- Plan, coordinate, and monitor the implementation of L.E.A.N concepts to improve and make production more efficient
- Ensure that all production activities adhere to Ideal Products policies and procedures
Supervision
- Monitor staff levels and ensure that headcount numbers adhere to annual budget. Initiate hiring or layoffs when needed to cope with expanding workload or for replacement of substandard employees and initiate layoffs as the business slows down
- Conduct training or authorize training of production employees to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures
- Work closely with the training coordinator to ensure that cross training of employees is achieved and that all training records are kept current
- Communicate corporate goals and objectives to staff
- Conduct formal performance reviews per company policy
- Initiate disciplinary measures according to company policy when needed
Financial Control
- Take all necessary actions to manage production costs and improve profitability
- Advise Plant Manager on capital improvements needed to increase company productivity
- Assist Plant Manager in the evaluation of production equipment purchases/leases and conduct cost/benefit analyses
- Monitor and control all consumables in the shop to ensure costs are kept under control
Equipment Maintenance
- Work closely with Maintenance personnel to ensure the repair and maintenance requirements of production equipment and facilities is carried out in a timely manner
- Ensure the equipment and facilities are properly serviced according to established maintenance schedules.
- Identify areas for improvement in maintenance process and work with the Plant Manager and maintenance technicians to make changes
- Ensure daily machine checks are carried out by all employees and maintenance requirements are identified quickly
Equipment used in the Job:
- In this position a variety of production and shipping equipment is used.
Physical Requirements or Conditions:
This position requires considerable walking, standing, heavy lifting up to 100 pounds, stopping, and other types of physical efforts and dexterity in moving and distributing product, supplies and materials. Also, the position requires moving and handling of dangerous goods & materials and operating dangerous machinery and equipment. Although safety measures and precautions have been undertaken by the company to minimize the risks of dangers, there is always a hazard of injury in working in the warehouse & production environment; moving product, materials and supplies, and operating or being in the vicinity of machinery or equipment.
The incumbent/employee will be required to work both indoors and outdoors during all types of weather and may be required to work in areas that are dusty, hot, cold, and odorous or with high humidity.

- Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Able to stand for long periods of time.
- Mechanical aptitude is beneficial.
- Mathematical aptitude is beneficial.
Education:
- High school diploma or GED is required, college preferred
Experience:
- Previous experience running a multi shift production shop with up to 80 employees
- Previous experience implementing and managing LEAN manufacturing projects
Compensation Range
$50,000.00 - $100,000.00
The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
