We are seeking a knowledgeable and customer-focused Lumber and Building Material Desk Sales Associate to join our team. This role involves providing expert assistance to customers, managing sales transactions, and promoting our wide range of building materials and supplies. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, a background in retail or construction-related sales, and the ability to effectively upsell and demonstrate products. Multilingual abilities and experience with high-end sales or renovation projects are a plus. This position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment where customer service and technical knowledge are paramount.
Key Responsibilities:
Inside Sales Specialist:
- Provide exceptional customer service in-store, by phone, and via email.
- Coordinate/open new accounts with LBM Sales manager for new clients.
- Generate and follow up on quotes, including for decks, fences, railing, siding, and special-order items.
- Assist customers with product selection and maintain strong product knowledge across all LBM categories.
- Actively promote interior and exterior products, including windows, doors, flooring, and trim.
- Enter, process, and manage sales orders, returns, and special orders in the Prism system.
- Coordinate with purchasing, yard, and logistics teams for order accuracy and timely deliveries.
- Maintain regular contact with customer accounts and prospect new clients (contractors, builders).
- Support pricing updates, inventory accuracy, and merchandising.
- Attend LBM team meetings and participate in training seminars and Home Hardware markets.
- Meet or exceed monthly sales goals and contribute to team objectives.
- Handle customer issues and resolve complaints in a professional manner.
- Communicate with lumberyard & delivery staff with customer orders, pick-ups and deliveries.
- Create end caps and rotate stock regularly for LBM categories.
- Any additional tasks required by LBM Sales manager.
Qualifications:
- 2+ years inside sales or customer service, preferably in LBM or construction.
- Strong knowledge of lumber, building materials, and product lines (or willingness to learn).
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and point-of-sale systems.
- Comfortable managing multiple projects and tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- High school diploma required; post-secondary education is an asset.
- Valid driver's license with clean abstract.
- Physical ability to lift up to 23 kg or 50lbs
- Availability for flexible shifts between 7:00 AM–8:00 PM (Mon–Fri) and Saturdays.
- Construction/renovation background is a strong asset.
- Must enjoy working with people and have a positive, team-first attitude.
