About the Role:
The Yard Supervisor is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the yard and warehouse, helping coordinate workflow, maintaining a safe and organized work environment, and providing hands-on leadership to operations associates. This is a working supervisor role and requires regular physical activity, including hand lifting, loading, unloading and assisting the team wherever needed. The ideal candidate takes pride in maintaining a clean, organized and safe yard environment at all times. Pay is commensurate with experience.
Responsibilities:
- Support daily operations in the yard and warehouse, including loading, unloading, staging, organizing, and moving materials.
- Supervise and coordinate operations associates, including task delegation, workflow support, scheduling, and performance oversight.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe yard and warehouse environment.
- Ensure orders are pulled, staged, loaded, and handled accurately and efficiently.
- Assist customers, drivers, and internal teams with loading and unloading vehicles as needed.
- Operate forklifts, loaders, and other yard equipment safely and in accordance with company procedures.
- Conduct routine checks of equipment, storage areas, racks, buildings, and yard space; report maintenance or safety concerns promptly.
- Support inventory control activities, including counts, receiving, quality checks, and reporting discrepancies.
- Train new employees and reinforce safe work practices, PPE expectations, and yard guidelines.
- Work alongside the team during busy periods to ensure customer service, productivity, and safety standards are met.
- Collaborate with delivery, warehouse, sales, and DURATION teams to support timely and accurate service.
- Identify opportunities to improve yard and warehouse processes, reduce errors, and improve workflow.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 5+ years of experience in a yard, warehouse, lumber, building materials, construction or similar hands-on operations environment required.
- Previous leadership, team lead, foreman or supervisory experience required.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to interact across departments and with vendors via phone, text, or internal platforms, while remaining calm under pressure.
- Ability to operate forklifts, loaders and other yard equipment required; forklift certification must be maintained through HBS
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities.
- Knowledge of lumber, millwork, building materials, or yard operations is a plus.
Physical Requirements of the Yard Supervisor:
- This is a physical, hands-on role that requires regular movement throughout the yard and warehouse (9-acre property)
- Must be able to stand, walk, bend, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Must be able to regularly hand lift and move materials up to 50 pounds and up to 150 pounds with assistance.
- Must be able to safely load, unload, stage, and move lumber and building materials by hand and with equipment.
- Must be able to work around trucks, forklifts, loaders, and other heavy equipment in an active yard environment.
