Role: Assistant Yard ManagerPrimary Responsibilities:Operational Support:
- Assist the Yard Manager in daily operations, including supervision of yard staff and ensuring all departments (shipping, receiving, material handling, customer service) meet their objectives.
- Fill in for the Yard Manager during absences or holidays.
- Act as a liaison between Yard Manager and frontline staff to ensure smooth communication and workflow.
Staff Management:
- Support in scheduling, coaching, and performance monitoring of yard staff.
- Ensure employees are following company policies and procedures.
- Help with onboarding and training of new hires, including safety protocols and equipment operation.
Inventory and Yard Maintenance:
- Supervise or assist in inventory duties: counting, verifying, labeling, and organizing materials.
- Oversee daily yard upkeep: restacking lumber, cleaning products, sweeping, and general organization.
- Operate forklifts and assist in building and loading/unloading of trucks as required.
- Assist in organizing cold storage and handling special orders.
Shipping & Receiving Assistance:
- Help coordinate deliveries and pickups.
- Ensure that product shipments and returns are correctly documented and processed.
- Verify received goods against invoices and ensure proper storage.
Safety & Compliance:
- Assist in performing pre-use equipment inspections.
- Help fill out and follow up on accident reports; ensure incidents are reported to HR and management.
- Monitor yard for any safety concerns and report or address them promptly.
Customer Interaction:
- Provide professional, efficient communication with customers, suppliers, and internal departments.
- Address minor customer concerns and escalate larger issues to the Yard Manager or Store Manager.
Administrative Duties:
- Assist in maintaining accurate logs and reports related to deliveries, inventory, and equipment.
- Open or close the yard when acting as key holder.
- Help prepare lists of facility maintenance needs and communicate with the Facility Manager.
Reporting Structure:
- Reports to: Yard Manager, Store Manager
- Direct Reports: Yard staff (in Yard Manager's absence or when delegated)
