Our Building & Material Sciences team is second to none in the industry, recognized as a leader in applied building science and façade systems. We operate at the intersection of design, engineering, fabrication, and construction, giving you rare exposure to how advanced façade and envelope systems integrate with every other scope and moving part on a major project.
You As a Coordinator, Building & Material Sciences Will
- Be part of an agile, high-performing team uniquely positioned within Canada’s largest construction firm. You’ll work on the country’s most complex, high-profile projects, where decisions matter and your impact is visible.
- Pursuits
- Perform early project feasibility studies to help clients make informed decisions on conceptual design development.
- Aid estimating and project pursuit teams by providing specific technical knowledge in the areas of constructability, logistics, supplier evaluations, and building envelope systems and materials.
- Review project requirements, identify envelope-related risks and opportunities and support the design build team with the envelope strategy.
- Pre-construction
- Collaborate with the project team (clients, architects, engineers, building envelope consultants, construction teams) to iterate on design concepts at an early stage.
- Support the preconstruction team's efforts and work to provide practical guidance to optimize designs for various project goals - cost, schedule, functionality, etc.
- Support envelope procurement, evaluating cost and technical performance of envelope and facade systems as they relate to the project goals (budget, schedule, carbon, durability, performance, etc)
- Review architectural specifications, drawings and subcontractor submittals for constructability, adherence to building science principles, industry standards and best practices.
- Identify building envelope-related risks and opportunities and work with the operational team to mitigate/capitalize respectively.
- Provide specific technical support to project teams in the areas of constructability and envelope related scope. This includes supporting site teams with project planning, scheduling, sequencing and coordination.
- Construction
- Conduct site reviews and produce technical reports that summarize potential construction or performance issues and outline detailed solutions.
- Technical Lead on key design-assist programs, working alongside the consultant team and façade partner to develop design and shop drawings in parallel. Delivering key schedule milestones while controlling costs and maintaining design intent and critical aesthetic elements.
- Forensics
- Conduct site forensic investigations of non-compliant work, perform root cause analysis and provide detailed solution for remediation.
- Research & Development & Intellectual Capital
- Take an active role in ongoing research and development for a variety of building science and envelope-related areas, such as best practices, lessons learned, common design challenges and field diagnostic testing.
- Support broader corporate sustainability initiatives such as the reduction of our carbon footprint.
- Assist in the dissemination of knowledge across the company through workshops, webinars, technical bulletins and lessons learned.
