CWP Wood is a leading importer and sales organization selling high-end lumber and veneers to millworkers, woodworkers, and specialty lumber dealers. We work closely with the architect and design community placing our unique one-of-a-kind wood products in prestigious projects throughout North America.
We’re seeking a Buyer to manage lumber procurement across our global supply network spanning North America, Europe, Africa, South America, and Asia. This role sits at the center of our supply chain — owning supplier relationships, managing inbound logistics, and ensuring our inventory position supports an active North American trading desk. You'll work closely with traders, logistics, and warehouse operations, with real input into the company's sourcing strategy.
Responsibilities
Procurement & Sourcing
- Source and purchase lumber from mills and exporters across five continents
- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, specifications, and tallies with domestic and overseas suppliers
- Evaluate new supply origins and product opportunities; qualify new mills and vet certifications and legality documentation
Supplier Relationship Management
- Serve as primary point of contact for an established network of domestic and international suppliers
- Maintain regular communication on production schedules, loading, and quality expectations
- Resolve claims, shortages, and specification discrepancies professionally and decisively
Lead Times & Deliveries
- Track purchase orders from mill confirmation through ocean or ground freight, customs clearance, and delivery to reloads and warehouses
- Manage shipping documentation (B/L, packing lists, certificates of origin, import permits)
- Proactively flag delays and communicate revised ETAs to the trading team
Inventory Management
- Monitor stock levels, aging, and turnover by product, dimension, and grade
- Align purchasing volumes with sales velocity and trader forecasts to optimize working capital
- Reconcile inbound receipts against packing lists and maintain inventory accuracy in the ERP
Strategic Planning
- Contribute to product and origin diversification strategy
- Analyze market pricing trends, currency exposure, and freight conditions to time purchases advantageously
- Build supplier scorecards and procurement KPIs to support long-term planning
Qualifications
- 3–5+ years in purchasing, procurement, or trading preferred
- Lumber, forest products, or commodity import experience preferred
- Working knowledge of lumber products, grading rules, and metric/imperial tally conversion preferred
- Familiarity with international trade logistics: Incoterms, ocean freight, customs documentation
- Strong negotiation and communication skills; comfortable working across time zones and cultures
- Proficiency with ERP systems and Excel; detail-oriented with strong reconciliation instincts
- Proficiency with Oracle ERP systems preferred
- Proficiency with AI tools such as Claude preferred
- Bilingual English/French an asset; additional languages a plus — Spanish, Portuguese, German, or Swedish given our international supply base
