We are seeking a dynamic Business Development Manager, preferably based in Toronto, ON, or can be based out of Chicago, Baltimore or Boston, with extensive experience in millwork sales and distribution. This role involves managing key client accounts, developing strategic sales plans, and driving business growth. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in sales, excellent communication skills, and the ability to build strong relationships with clients.

What You’ll Do
As the Business Development Manager, you will have the opportunity to drive sales, margin, and overall customer relationships with high volume and industrial accounts throughout Eastern North America! You will also be responsible for penetrating into new accounts and maintaining & growing current key account relationships, while also determining potential in new geographic markets.
You will serve as the primary liaison overseeing business operations for our manufacturing facilities, with a particular focus on our state-of-the-art flagship facility in Woodbridge, ON
This role is responsible for developing and maintaining positive customer relationships and keeping current on company products, sales procedures and market conditions.
The Business Development Manager reports to the Senior Director, Eastern Canada, with a dotted line to the Director, Manufacturing Sales, and develops strong relationships with our customers, Department(s), and other key cross-functional areas at Metrie.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain ongoing order file that aligns with our manufacturing capabilities
- Achieve sales targets that are in line with the financial and customer targets of the branch.
- Develop new millwork opportunities within the Industrial and OEM Segment
- Ensure Metrie penetrates a territory where it can profitably achieve dominant market share through customer intimacy
- Effectively represent Metrie’s interests when dealing with customers, the community, employees, and suppliers
- Track and issue product proposals ensuring compliance with company sales procedures.
- Field customer calls and filter product related calls to appropriate managers
- Act as a liaison between operations functions and customers to manage delivery expectations
- Follow through on sales orders and inquiries, consistently manage pricing and margin growth
- Collaborate within cross-functional teams to keep management and customers up to date on shipping schedules
- Effectively manage inventory, AR and Credits
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or a combination of education and/or experience.
- 7+ years of sales experience in growing large customer relationships.
- Demonstrated success working with and influencing and senior business leaders and decision makers.
- Strong spreadsheet skills: ability to understand, utilize and create sales spreadsheets.
- Prior experience working with CRM tool is an asset.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Understanding of the building industry and construction practices preferred.
- Ability to freely travel to locations in the US and Canada, including overnight travel (25-30% of role regularly, with increased periods of travel as required.)
- Valid driver’s license and ability to sit and safely operate a vehicle, commute and access various sales meeting locations (approximately but not limited to 40% of typical daily activity.)

In adherence to the principle of pay transparency, we are pleased to disclose the base pay for this full-time position at Metrie. The base pay for this role is set at $100,000+ per year plus variable pay. It is important to note that this position may also qualify for discretionary bonuses or commission payments. The specific base pay within the range will be contingent upon an individual's skills, qualifications, experience, and geographical location. Furthermore, it is essential to highlight that our remuneration ranges are established based on the role, level, and location.
